Manage the Politics
0
Once you have assumed a position of leadership, pay attention to the politics around you. While women are in the minority, everything they do is amplified. Every mistake is noticed, every slip is notched up on the undisclosed register of ‘not up for it’.
Being an executive provides you with power. Being a female executive means you’re also under the microscope and it’s even more important that you manage your profile and project an image of credibility, authority and competence.
You must pay attention to the political landscape. Nurture your relationships with colleagues. Build your cadre of champions and loyalists.
Stay informed. Ensure you know what the key influencers are saying and doing. Ensure that others are speaking about your results positively.
Do not allow others to diminish your accomplishments.
If you think there is any chance of unrest or disquiet, use your authority and nip it in the bud.
